Upon arrival at the base camp, the <strong>first briefing<\/strong> will take place. Our guides will explain everything from A to Z about how the week will unfold and give you all the tips &amp; tricks to make it through the week without any issues.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you booked a camping overnight stay with us, you\u2019ll spend the night here and have the chance to test your camping gear for the first time with the help of the guides.<\/li>\n<li>If you choose to spend your first night somewhere else, make sure to arrive at our base camp by the end of the afternoon to attend the briefing. The next morning, you are expected back at our base camp to head towards Landmannalaugar. Then it's time for the first hike of the week! It's the longest hiking day, but also the most diverse.<\/p>\n<p>The hike starts along <strong>impressive lava flows<\/strong> and you'll gain 490 meters in elevation. You'll almost immediately come across fantastic viewpoints that offer stunning views of the <strong>colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Around noon, you'll arrive at the <strong>Hrafntinnusker hut<\/strong>. On the way to the hut, you might cross your first snow\/ice bridges.<\/p>\n<p>Since Hrafntinnusker is the highest point of the trail, the rest of the day mainly consists of descending, with a few steep climbs here and there. The landscape changes dramatically, and the beautifully colored mountains transition into <strong>impressive dark and green hills<\/strong> with amazing <strong>glaciers<\/strong> in the background. This includes camping gear, which usually weighs around 5 kg (tent, mat, sleeping bag) and food packs (+-4kg). Any unnecessary items will be left at the base camp.<\/p>\n<p>However, the number of backpacks that can be taken is limited, so act fast. You will still need a large backpack of your own to get to Iceland. A daypack is also required to carry while hiking.
